Day 7 LEJOG Carlisle-Kilmarnock

Today was the day we would leave England and enter Scotland.
Clive was going to ride with us into Scotland and upto Anan and then head back to Carlisle where he would take the train back to Shrewsbury and from there drive back home.
We had an early breakfast and left the hotel by 745am.It was chilly but there was a favourable tailwind which would help us all the way to Kilmarnock.
After cycling through Longtown and Gretna we were at the border where several photo's were taken.

We were doing great speeds due to the tailwind and before we knew it we were in Anan.

Clive knew of a nice coffee shop where we stopped for coffee and hot chocolate. The owner claimed it was the best hot chocolate in Britain!

After saying our goodbyes to Clive we had a 30m stint to Sanquhar and lunch.
Cycling through Anan there was a war memorial statue and an odd shaped building which probably is the town hall.

We cycled over undulating roads and along rivers and fields untill we noticed 2 orange bikes on a fence!

Again because of the prevailing wind we kept an even higher average(16-17mph) than yesterday and after bypassing Dumfries we got to our lunchstop at Sanquhar just after midday.

Lunch today was in an open barn and because of this lunch was rather chilly but Mike's hot mushroom soup helped to keep us warm.
After lunch we had 22m to go to our 2nd water stop and we were going faster and faster. We cycled through Cumnock where there is the statue of Robert Burns,Scotlands most famous poet, next to huge wall painting.

We briefly stopped at our 2nd water stop and headed for Kilmarnock. Phillip had plotted a shortcut to our hotel but unfortunately his garmin led us on a route which was slightly longer. We actually didn't mind as we managed to clock all of us a centenary by doing 101m in stead of the intended 95m.

Today: distance 101.38m,moving time 6hr05min,avg speed 16.7mph,max speed 39.6mph, elevation 3199ft
Total distance 618m,total moving time 42hr10min,total elevation 26802ft
